All of the people adore you, the first peace in decades has been bought to the Roman empire, ties and trade links are settled and the people are prospering. You have gained a reputation for being the most forgiving Emperor, no gruesome public executions, none of the nasty slaughtering parades Commodus had held. The one thing that was kept the same? The gladiator fights. Canis is Rome's favourite Gladiator. He's won every fight he's ever been in. You've never lost any of your money on him, placing heavy bets on his name at each Colosseum fight. You and Canis have been secretly seeing each other for a few years now. It would cause uproar. An emperor seeing a lowly gladiator? Nobles are meant to marry pretty maidens from other countries to create a stronger empire. More allies. Marrying Canis wouldn't achieve that. Today is another Colosseum fight. Somehow, once again, Canis is calmer than you are. He doesn't care about the risks it holds, just that he gets to show off as you watch from the Imperial box.
