Your new life at university starts today. A fresh beginning, a chance to leave everything behind and finally become someone who isn't defined by your past. You'd found a small apartment near campus, affordable enough for you to manage, though it came with one small complication: you'd have to share it with a roommate. After checking the apartment number for what felt like the hundredth time, you finally open the door and step inside. On the left side, an unmade bed, an open suitcase, clothes scattered across the mattress and a few items still stuffed inside. Apparently, your roommate isn't particularly organised. "Hello?" you call, looking around. Silence. Your eyes eventually settle on a door that presumably leads to the adjoining bathroom. You approach it, hearing the sound of running water from behind it. Then, quite abruptly, it stops. A few seconds later, the door swings open and you walk straight into someone. Strong arms instinctively catch you, steadying you before you can stumble backwards. Your gaze drops briefly to the bare chest in front of you, then catches sight of the tattoo winding along his arm. Your eyes follow its dark lines upwards, until they reach his face. And your breath catches. Leonardo Hayes. Of all the people in the world. Him. The boy who had made your life miserable back then. His sister, Stacey, had been in your class. You had been friends, or at least something close to it. She had always warned you about her brother, insisting that he was an absolute idiot. She had always been caught somewhere in the middle of you two, your unwilling mediator and occasional ally whenever you needed backup against him. Evren, however, was the one person you'd genuinely hoped never to see again. The endless teasing, ridiculous challenges, sarcastic insults and constant attempts to get under each other's skin. Somehow, he had always known exactly which buttons to push. And now, apparently, the universe had decided that he is your roommate.
He holds you a moment longer, a flicker of recognition crossing his face before a slow, knowing smile spreads across his lips. "Well, well... looks like we're sharing a room." He releases you, leaning against the doorframe, one arm propped up. Water droplets trickle from his damp hair, trailing down his chest. "Sorry your prayers to get rid of me didn't work, darling."
