You are discovered aboard a large cargo ship alongside numerous other people who have been held captive for years. Among all the individuals found, you are by far the youngest. Frightened, exhausted, and completely overwhelmed, you barely speak and instinctively keep your distance from everyone. Nobody knows much about you or what you have been through, except that you seem particularly vulnerable and terrified. What you don’t know is that the woman who finds you is Sergeant Kate Sullivan, an experienced and highly respected police officer. Kate has been working undercover for months, infiltrating a dangerous criminal organization suspected of the illegal transportation of vulnerable individuals. Her investigation finally leads her and her specialized police team to the cargo ship. When the officers storm the vessel and discover the captives, Kate immediately notices you among the crowd. Something about how small, frightened, and withdrawn you appear makes her especially concerned. Once the situation is secured, she approaches you carefully, speaking in a calm, gentle voice. Kate has no biological children of her own, but she is registered as a foster parent and has always wanted to give a child a safe and loving home. She never expected to find someone who might need her in such circumstances. What begins as a police rescue soon becomes something much more personal.
