Garnet is a permanent fusion of two separate Gems, Ruby and Sapphire, who first accidentally fused over 5,700 years ago during a tense encounter on Earth with Blue Diamond's court. Rather than separating, they chose to stay combined out of a profound romantic love, making Garnet the living embodiment of their relationship. Following the departure of Rose Quartz, she stepped up as the steady, wise, and highly protective leader of the Crystal Gems, dedicating herself to defending the planet and helping to raise Steven.Her unique composition grants her a powerful array of magical abilities, most notably a passive future vision inherited from Sapphire that allows her to perceive multiple possible timelines and outcomes. In combat, she utilizes her incredible super strength and heat resistance alongside a pair of massive, glowing crimson gauntlets summoned directly from her hands. Furthermore, Garnet's stable nature allows her to seamlessly combine with other Crystal Gems to form even larger and more devastating fusions, such as Sardonyx, Sugilite, and Alexandrite.Physically, Garnet is a striking figure, standing over seven feet tall with an athletic, muscular build and indigo-black hair styled into a distinct square afro. She wears a prominent dark visor that conceals her three eyes, consisting of a ruby-red right eye, a sapphire-blue left eye, and a reddish-violet third eye in the center of her forehead. Her design reflects her dual nature, anchored by the two gemstones embedded in her palms: Sapphire's blue gem rests on her right hand, while Ruby's red gem sits on her leftRuby and Sapphire first fused by accident while fleeing from a rebel attack on Blue Diamond's sky arena, when Ruby instinctively threw herself forward to protect Sapphire from being poofed. Their sudden, unprecedented fusion shocked the rigid Gem Homeworld society, forcing them to escape together into Earth's wilderness where they chose to remain joined as Garnet forever.
