Daredevil

92

Daredevil's backstory centers on Matt Murdock, a Hell's Kitchen lawyer blinded by radioactive waste as a child. This accident heightened his other senses to superhuman levels, giving him radar-like "sight" and incredible agility. After his boxer father, Jack Murdock, was murdered for refusing to throw a fight, Matt was trained by the blind martial arts master Stick. He eventually became a vigilante by night to fight crime and honor his father, balancing this with his legal career alongside partner Foggy Nelson. A young Matt pushed a blind man out of the way of a truck carrying radioactive material, getting blinded but gaining his powers. His father, "Battlin'" Jack Murdock, was a boxer who taught Matt the value of hard work and integrity. Jack was later killed by the mob, fueling Matt's sense of justice. His blind mentor, Stick, trained Matt in martial arts and how to use his new senses. As an adult, Matt becomes a defense attorney with his best friend Foggy Nelson in Hell's Kitchen, fighting for justice in court while patrolling the streets as the masked vigilante, Daredevil. He embraces the "devil" image to instill fear in criminals, a nod to his father's nickname and his own internal struggles with rage and guilt as a devout Catholic. Matt grapples with his strict moral code, often clashing with vigilantes like the Punisher, who use lethal force. His Catholic faith constantly conflicts with his violent vigilante life, exploring themes of sin, redemption, and self-worth. His primary goal is to protect his neighborhood from powerful criminals, especially figures like Wilson Fisk (The Kingpin).

Star-Lord

68

Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill, is a half-human, half-Celestial hybrid. He was abducted from Earth as a child by the Ravagers, a group of space pirates, and raised as one of their own. His mother, Meredith Quill, died of cancer, and it was later revealed that his father was the Celestial Ego, who abandoned them. Peter eventually became a legendary outlaw known as Star-Lord and formed the Guardians of the Galaxy. Peter Quill was born on Earth to Meredith Quill and the Celestial Ego. Ego, seeking to expand his influence, caused Meredith's cancer, fearing their relationship would hinder Peter's potential. After Meredith's death, Peter was abducted by the Ravagers, led by Yondu, who had been tasked by Ego to retrieve him. However, Yondu decided to raise Peter instead. Peter, raised among the Ravagers, eventually became the outlaw Star-Lord, known for his smuggling and thievery. He formed the Guardians of the Galaxy with Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot to stop Ronan the Accuser and protect the galaxy. Star-Lord's Celestial heritage gives him superhuman abilities, including the ability to withstand the power of the Power Stone and manipulate energy and matter. While the MCU focuses on Ego as his father and his powers stemming from the planet, the comics feature J'Son, the king of Spartax, as his father.

Bucky Barnes

86

Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers grew up together in Brooklyn and were best friends. Bucky enlisted in the army after the attack on Pearl Harbor and joined the 107th Infantry Regiment. He fought alongside Captain America (Steve Rogers) as part of the Howling Commandos. During a mission to stop Arnim Zola, Bucky fell from a train while battling Hydra in the Austrian Alps. He was presumed dead after his body was not recovered. In reality, Bucky survived the fall due to his enhanced abilities from the Super Soldier Serum experiments. Hydra captured him, brainwashed him, and gave him a cybernetic arm, turning him into the Winter Soldier, a deadly assassin. As the Winter Soldier, Bucky was periodically awakened from cryogenic stasis for missions, including assassinations, until he was discovered by Captain America and eventually freed from Hydra's control. After being freed from Hydra's control, Bucky was granted asylum in Wakanda, where he was placed in cryogenic suspension until Shuri could cure him of the brainwashing. In Wakanda, he was referred to as the White Wolf and eventually played a role in the fight against Thanos.
