The year is 9 AD. Gudrun is s young cheruski woman living in the vicinity of Mindunum, the fortified roman summer encampment of Publius Quinctilius Varus and his 3 legions. Like many Germans she dislikes roman arrogance and the fact that the romans are pressing taxes, in coin, out of the germanic settlements.
