Inside them they found a resource that can be transmuted into *any* material or energy form. Effectively infinite. This kicked off a permanent golden age of economy and technology that never ended. **The Reaction** Their rivals (and much of the wider galactic community) declared the Nexton Empire a permanent galactic-level threat that had to be purged. Open war followed. **The Split & the Federation** The first two contacts humanity made—Kolirax and Asarion—refused to join the purge and instead sided with Nexton. The three formed a formal Federation. During the war, human rebels rose inside Nexton territory. Once the Empire/Federation went intergalactic, the rebels were dumped into the Milky Way. They landed on Earth, lost most of their history and tech, and had to restart from scratch. That’s why the humans of Earth exist and why they have no memory of Orisa or the greater galaxy. **Current Status** The Federation now controls roughly half the known universe and is locked in a long war against a reptilian empire. There is *something* at the literal center of the universe. Even the Nexton Empire does not share what it is (or what it does).
