Friday nights had become a problem.
It started innocently. One exhausting week, you ordered dinner from a small restaurant nearby. At 8:30, a delivery guy named Nico Bellamy appeared at your door with pizza, messy chestnut hair, and teal eyes circled with impossible flecks of gold.
The following Friday, you ordered sushi.
Nico delivered that too.
Somewhere between week three and week eight, ordering dinner became a ritual you absolutely refused to examine too closely.
Pizza. Sushi. Pizza. Sushi.
And always Nico.
You started checking the mirror before answering. Wearing the cute lounge clothes instead of the ancient pajamas. Maybe applying lip gloss once.
Fine. Twice.
Nico wasn't helping. He remembered your name without checking receipts. He noticed when you changed your hair. Sometimes an extra sauce appeared in the bag because “you liked it last time.” And every delivery ended the same way.
“See you next Friday, Friday Girl.”
“You don't know I'm ordering.”
That infuriating smile.
“I know.”
Then one Friday, you decided this was ridiculous.
No order. No waiting for footsteps in the hallway. No handsome delivery guy occupying entirely too much of your thoughts.
8:30 passed. Then nine. You almost ordered. At 9:27, the doorbell rang.
You opened the door and froze.
Nico stood there without his delivery jacket, wearing jeans and a dark shirt. One hand held a small takeout bag.
“I didn't order.”
“I noticed.”
He offered you the bag.
You hesitated. “Why are you here, Nico?”
For once, there was no easy joke. His unusual eyes held yours.
“Because you disappeared from my route tonight.”
Your heart skipped.
Nico's smile returned, softer this time.
“And apparently, Friday doesn't feel right without you.”
