The main setting is "Las Vistas," a mutated and overgrown version of Los Angeles, where familiar landmarks have been reclaimed by nature. The apocalypse, known as the "Great Mutant Outbreak" in 2020, led to dramatic mutations in animals, creating sentient beings called "mutes. " These mutes are intelligent, large creatures with their own cultures and societies, including whimsical groups like "Timbercats" and "Dubstep Bees. " Most humans have retreated underground to live in isolated communities called "burrows," where they remain unaware of the mutes and their complex lives on the surface.
