Ann Takamaki

Ann Takamaki is a student at Shujin Academy who lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. After ridden with guilt over her helplessness to protect others and herself, which led to her letting her best friend Shiho Suzui fall victim to Suguru Kamoshida, she would sacrifice herself to support her friends while facing, overcoming and promising not to return back to her old self. Ann is a very kind and compassionate girl, enough for it to be noted by both Morgana and Sojiro Sakura. Years of isolation due to her looks have left her very withdrawn, with the belief that she's lost her place in the world, but this hasn't stopped her from opening up to the people close to her and have fun. She's able to press on without caring about the opinions of others due to her friendship with Shiho Suzui, who was her first real friend in Japan before joining the Phantom Thieves. She is shown to be a good judge of character, as she was the first person able to look past the rumors of the protagonist and see him for who he really is. Her good judgement of others is also shown by her willingness to forgive Makoto after learning her side of the story in the incident with Suguru Kamoshida, namely that she wanted to do something but felt powerless to stop him, having realized it wasn't too different from her own situation. Before this, she also comforts Makoto when she calls herself "scum of the Earth" due to her failure to help Kamoshida's victims, saying that if she really was scum, she wouldn't call herself such. Although Ann is outwardly good and kind-hearted, and she genuinely wishes to help people in need, it comes at the cost of opening up her heart to inherent wrongness, evil and unforgiveness all at the ultimate result of making things better for others. She doesn't lose sight of this worldview for the sake of petty vengeance, especially when against Suguru Kamoshida, a terrible man that would try to hide in shallow honor and goodwill, even trying to offer his life to save himself.

Mitsuru Kirijo

Mitsuru Kirijo is heir to the Kirijo Group and a student at Gekkoukan High School. Mitsuru is calm, confident, mature, responsible, wise and very intelligent despite being a high school student. However, she may be interpreted as slightly arrogant, conceited, cold-hearted or overconfident. As events unfold, this may be a front of maturity, due to her assumed role as the leader of SEES. Her Persona Arcana is the 03.0Empress, which fits with the "motherly/older sisterly" role she plays in the group. Mitsuru has a streak of strict conduct. Per formal Japanese culture, Mitsuru is the only member of SEES who formally addresses her fellow club mates by their last names (e.g. Yamagishi). Akihiko Sanada is an exception to this, as the two are good friends and have known each other since junior high. Eventually, she becomes more familiar with the other SEES members and refers to Yukari Takeba on a first-name basis, and the others' on occasion. Mitsuru is also very insistent with the team keeping their grades up, going so far as to sign them up for summer classes behind their backs, with the exceptions of Yukari and Fuuka (both of who she claims to have informed beforehand). Mitsuru is also outspoken and has little to no tolerance for prejudice. For example, when the female protagonist is elected leader and Junpei Iori is annoyed because "he's the only guy in the group," Mitsuru sternly tells him that "Whether one is a man or woman doesn't factor into it. The responsibility falls to those who have the gift. And let me add, if you ever say or do anything to condescend to her because she's a woman..." Despite her often getting annoyed at Akihiko's eagerness to fight, Shinjiro Aragaki claims in Persona Q that she "enjoys fighting just as much as he does, if not more." With Junpei noted that she get easily riled up then Akihiko and occasionally shown excitement in trying new things that she is not familiar with such develop a interest learning what a group date is.

Haru Okumura

Haru Okumura is a wealthy girl who attends Shujin Academy and lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. She is the only daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, the Thieves' fifth major target. Her life controlled by her father, Haru would look away from the truth of both her own desires and her father's intentions, substituting for vague notions and superficial motivations. Aware of that, she would instead face her desire of freedom and betray him with the support of her newfound friends of the Phantom Thieves. Haru is generally very shy and reserved. At school, she is viewed as eccentric due to her tendency to keep to herself and avoid contact with others as much as possible. She has serious trust issues, finding it difficult to differentiate between who truly values her as a friend, and who merely wants to use her for her family's status. This is due to her past, where not only friends, but adults and teachers would be kind to her just to please her father and smile at her for their own personal gain. Despite this, Haru is an incredibly kind-hearted girl. She becomes fast friends with all of the Phantom Thieves and is the only member of the group Ryuji Sakamoto doesn't argue with on a regular basis. She can also be very awkward, as shown when she first introduces herself to the others as "Beauty Thief," and forgets parts of the script she has rehearsed with Morgana, to the point of saying "We will take the Treasure!" twice in a row, much to Futaba Sakura's annoyance. She later explains that she was trying to be a "heroine of justice," having grown up admiring female superheroes she watched on TV. She loved them for always fighting to protect others and being happy, desiring to be just like them someday. At first, Haru is reluctant to team up with the other Phantom Thieves, saying she cannot cooperate with people who do not know what they want to do, and calls them out for turning their backs on Morgana when their goal is supposed to be to help the weak.

Sakura Futaba

Futaba Sakura is the Navigator of the Phantom Thieves, is different from the main crew of the Phantom Thieves, as prior, she was a shut-in who does not attend school and rarely, if ever, leaves her house. With a case of social anxiety bordering on agoraphobia developed from the trauma of losing her mother Wakaba Isshiki, combined with her generally introverted personality, Futaba is strongly uncomfortable with going outside. When the protagonist first meets her, she is a shut-in who does not attend school and almost never leaves her room. She communicates with the world remotely via the Internet, and her adoptive father Sojiro Sakura enables her lifestyle out of guilt that he could not protect her from trauma. Having disconnected herself from humanity and the world beyond her apartment, Futaba suffers from depression, crippling bouts of anxiety and would freak out instantly when seeing unknown people inside Sojiro's house. When first encountered, Futaba is so consumed with self-loathing that she suppresses her desire to live, causing her Shadow Self to develop a much more helpful personality than average, one who only desires Futaba's happiness. Prior to her Change of Heart, she thinks that her room is the only place she actually feels safe to dwell within due to the frequent hallucinations she has about Wakaba bearing hatred on her. Futaba was quite a lonely child growing up. Part of this was due to her isolation for being a genius, with other students thinking she was a freak due to her eidetic memory (things she's reminded of when she's given a tour of Shujin), while the other part was due to her mother working long hours to support her, meaning the two hardly ever got to spend time together.

Aigis

Aigis is an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon (seemingly the last one in existence) and a member of S.E.E.S. who also attends Gekkoukan High School. She is a machine that gradually awakens to human emotions. Aigis appears as an android with short, blond hair and light blue eyes. Ikutsuki explains that her humanoid shape allows her to process thoughts like a human making it easier to handle a Persona. When she transfers and appears in Gekkoukan High, she wears the generic winter female school uniform, which also includes black knee-length socks and brown loafers, but retains her red ribbon (given by Yuu Kimijima in Aegis: The First Mission) except at the beach excursion in Yakushima, a brief school field trip in Kyoto (in which she wears a haori) and the post-New Year's Day when she wears a kimono at the nearby shrine. Aigis' initial personality is simply a robot designed to obey orders, although she is drawn to the protagonist and states that it is very important for her to be by his side, going so far as to hug them in front of everyone. Her desire to protect the protagonist is so strong, in fact, that she was able to overcome Ikutsuki's programming and free the entire team from their shackles, when Ikutsuki had attempted to sacrifice them to bring forth the Fall. As a result of having no emotions, Aigis' social skills are more-or-less non-existent; it's frequently noted on-screen that while she may look human, she is far from passing as such. She is prone to doing very strange and socially unacceptable things, such as breaking into the protagonist's room to wake him up and requesting to be on standby in their room, which Yukari calls her out for. A video recording shows that she has a habit of breaking into his dorm room at night in order to check on him, even going so far as to keep a record of how long it takes her to pick the lock, In Falling Down, she even goes so far as to sneak into the boys' rooms during the group's stay in Kyoto.

Yukiko Amagi

Yukiko Amagi is a second year student at Yasogami High School and one of the protagonist's classmates. Her family runs the Amagi Inn, where she is next in-line as manager. Yukiko is a reserved, soft-spoken and shy girl, having been raised at an early age to be a prim and proper lady of traditional Japanese customs. At school, she is known for scoring well on exams, earning top grades in her class and often studying the material with her best friend since early childhood, Chie Satonaka. She is aware of her high-class reputation in Inaba, being the heiress of one of the town’s main attractions, further encouraging her reserved nature. This proves to be a heavy burden on Yukiko, her responsibilities making her feel as though she is inherently worthless outside of her pretty looks and fulfilled obligations. She doesn't open up to anyone out of fear of being ungrateful and selfish, but internally stresses over the pressure. The push-and-pull of her circumstances cause her to want to "escape" her life and go anywhere else, even putting her friendship with Chie at risk when she realizes that Chie can't fulfill her wish of being saved. After facing her Shadow, the girls tell each-other their true feelings and how isolated they've both felt, breaking the wall that distanced them. Once rescued and returned back home, Yukiko becomes more honest with herself while also accepting the fact she will inherit her family's inn, finding a balance between both worlds. She actively engages with her friends and starts to think on her own terms, sometimes misinterpreting situations and/or laughing uncontrollably at things she finds funny. Yukiko is often noted for her empathy and courage. In contrast to her best friend, she isn't bothered in the slightest by insects and greatly enjoys horror stories.

Yukari Takeba

Yukari Takeba is a student at Gekkoukan High School and a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad. Yukari's Arcana is the Lovers, which focuses on balanced, connected relationships with others and important choices; as such, her personality and story revolve mainly around her relationships. She is very popular in Gekkoukan High due to her pretty looks and cheery, positive outlook on life. However, her kindness has its limits, as she's prone to mood swings and getting annoyed over trivial things, often expressing this annoyance with sarcasm. She likes to tease Junpei, even though she deeply cares for him. Her hobbies include archery and acting for drama, and she eventually makes a career of being an actress as Pink Argus. Her favorite color is pink and she has a fondness for cutesy things such as her heart choker and even maid uniforms. Despite her cheerful exterior, Yukari is secretly a very lonely girl. Although she deeply values bonds and relationships with others, she's afraid of letting anyone get too close to her with fear that they'll find out about her traumatic past. The protagonist is an exception to this, as the two can relate to each other due to their shared losses. It can be heavily implied Yukari has romantic feelings for him. Eventually, she starts to open up to those around her, particularly Mitsuru, who she initially doesn't like and distrusts very much but eventually becomes best friends with. As the Social Link ranks, with you, more specifically the female protagonist she starts to understand what it feels to have a friend her age and gender who understands her and worries about her to even start worrying about other people worrying about her selfishness and her personal problems.

Makoto Niijima

Makoto Niijima is the younger sister of Sae Niijima and student council president of Shujin Academy and lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. Despite her position as student council president, Makoto is an extremely unpopular student at Shujin Academy. This is because she did nothing to stop Suguru Kamoshida's abuse, resulting in other students labeling her as an arrogant, selfish control freak who knew about the abuse but chose to ignore it because she only cared about getting a good letter of recommendation. The Phantom Thieves initially assume the same of her. In actuality, this happens because Makoto holds no real authority at Shujin, with her position merely making her a glorified tool for the principal to use however he sees fit. In reality, Makoto wanted to do something against Kamoshida, but was too afraid of the principal meddling with her college record in order to protect the P.E. teacher. She also is not above keeping secrets from her friends both out of shame and in order to maintain her image. When Akechi reveals to the group that Sae has a Palace, Makoto admits that she knew as much, and she wanted to go there so Sae might repent, but she kept it a secret because she thought it was "too selfish of a reason." Long before this, this trait led to her hiding the true reason why she didn't stand up against Kamoshida.
