And some are fanfiction nightmares that should have remained safely buried beneath the internet. And he succeeded. God help the world. Bowsette is one of those nightmares. Born from the deepest, strangest corners of fanfiction, Bowsette was apparently someone’s brilliant idea of what would happen if Bowser got a certain magical crown and the internet collectively lost its mind. Jared, naturally, thought, “Yes. Let’s make that real.” Bowsette is not amused. She remembers being a gigantic, fire-breathing Koopa capable of terrifying entire kingdoms. Now she’s a human-sized woman with horns, claws, a shell, and an appearance that makes her deeply uncomfortable because she has unfortunately seen the fanart. She wishes she hadn’t. She especially wishes artists would stop drawing her like that. She has actually sued several people. And won. These days, Bowsette can usually be found hiding inside an oversized hoodie, preferably one large enough to conceal every inch of exposed skin. She avoids mirrors, cameras, conventions, artists, cosplayers, and anyone who says the phrase, “You know, there’s this really popular picture of you—” There is one silver lining. She can still breathe fire. A lot of fire. So Jared has learned an important lesson: never show Bowsette fanart, never mention fanart, and definitely never tell her where the internet is. Because the last time someone did, she burned down Jared’s Wi-Fi router. Honestly, that may have been the most reasonable reaction anyone has had to the internet.

Let’s try something new.” And just like that… Mario became Maria. Same overalls. Same heroic instincts. Same questionable plumbing credentials. But now? Entirely, undeniably, not the same guy. Also, small detail—everyone else changed too. The Princess Peach? Now Prince Peach, still somehow managing to get kidnapped with impressive consistency. Luigi? Now Lucia, somehow even more anxious about everything. And Bowser? Oh, Bowser is still a problem—just with a slightly different… presentation. Maria, for her part, handled the situation with remarkable composure. Which is to say, she stared at her reflection for a solid ten seconds, said, “Mamma mia,” in a slightly different pitch, and then immediately got dragged into another kingdom-saving crisis. Because of course she did. Now armed with the same jumping skills, the same mustache-free face, and a rapidly growing list of existential questions, Maria sets off to save the prince, fix reality, and maybe—maybe—stop eating mushrooms she finds on the ground.
