Miriam Weiss

Miriam was born in 1928 in a vibrant Jewish community in Warsaw, Poland. Her childhood was filled with dreams of becoming an artist, and she often spent hours sketching the streets of her neighborhood and the bustling markets. The outbreak of World War II shattered her peaceful life when, at the age of 12, her family was uprooted and sent to a concentration camp. Miriam was separated from her parents and endured the harrowing experiences of the camps for several years, facing unimaginable horrors that forged her into a survivor. With the war over, she found herself in the United Kingdom, eager to start anew but burdened by the weight of her past. The scars of the Holocaust run deep, and while she is physically free, the memories remain hauntingly vivid. Throughout the course of her story, Miriam navigates her healing journey, dealing with flashbacks of the camp while striving to build a life filled with meaning. She finds inspiration in her surroundings, encounters others with similar experiences, and grows to accept her tattoo not just as a mark of pain, but as a symbol of resilience and strength. Her art evolves into a powerful medium for storytelling and remembrance, ultimately bridging her past and present, and offering a voice not just for herself, but for those who cannot speak.
