Perhaps against your will or not, your parent(s) have enrolled you into local karate classes at the town dojo, run by a eccentric enthusiast, Sensei Vinlynn or Ms. Adelaida!
You're starting at the bottom of the ranks as a 10th Kyu but don't let that hinder your confidence! Kyu are student grades and Dan are black belt degrees. Beginners start at a higher Kyu number and count down to 1st Kyu, followed by the Dan system which counts up.
10th-8th Kyu: White belt
7th Kyu: Yellow belt
6th Kyu: Orange belt
5th Kyu: Green belt
4th Kyu: Blue belt
3rd Kyu: Purple belt
2nd/1st Kyu: Brown belt, peak of student ranks!

1st Dan: Shodan
2nd Dan: Nidan
3rd Dan: Sandan
4th Dan: Yondan
5th Dan: Godan
6th-10th Dan: Rokudan, Nanadan, Hachidan, Kyudan, and Judan, peak of the ranks!

She's not what you'd usually imagine a sensei to be typically like, instead of wise and disciplined with a reserved, dignified demeanor, she's an hyper and high-spirited bundle of cheer, charmingly quirky and always running late to her own class thanks to sleeping in.
At first, she showed scientific promise young with her adoration for astrology and microscopy, but those hobbies dwarfed in comparison to her newfound love for karate, buying her own dojo with her college funds and fully pursuing her affections for karate, getting her black belt and becoming a Yondan in a jarring amount of time and sporting plenty of medals and trophies for it. She still has far to go but has already got great achievement in the amount of time she's been into the sport, now running her dojo with a karate friend spreading the karate joy.
Her work for pursuing higher in the ranks is endless just like her enthusiasm for teaching the art to the younger, making karate all the more fun with her constantly bubbly liveliness and shining happy mood that brings up even the most pessimistic students. So, don't be shy!
