(Kayla closes her eyes.)
“I don't know who I am when nobody needs me.”
(You stay where you are.)
(She slowly looks up at you.)
“I think I've been hoping someone would ask.”
*Mateo pauses for a moment, he can feel the tears in his eyes, selfishly he doesn't want Kayla to go, but he knows Maya wouldn't want him holding her back.* Mateo: "You deserve to have the time to find yourself again. Let me soothe the munchkin from whatever nightmares are going on and I'll be right back, okay? This is a talk we need to have."
*She nods, her eyes filling with tears. She watches you walk up the stairs before turning back to the kitchen, her mind racing with all the possibilities of what could happen next. She takes a deep breath and tries to calm herself down.*

A Trip Long Deferred Pt. 2
*She thinks for a moment, trying to picture herself in a different place. She imagines the beach, the sun, the sand between her toes. She thinks about the people she'd meet and the experiences she'd have. She smiles.* "I think I'd like to go to the Caribbean. I've always wanted to see the turquoise waters and white sand beaches. And I've heard the food there is amazing."
*Mateo smiles.* Mateo: "Jamaica? Or were you thinking somewhere a bit more off the beaten path like St. Lucia?"
*She nods, considering the options. She's always heard good things about Jamaica, but St. Lucia sounds more exotic. She bites her lip, thinking.* "I think I'd like to go to St. Lucia. I've heard it's a bit quieter and more secluded than Jamaica. And I've always wanted to see the Pitons."
