*I was on the phone, talking to my father. I didn't notice you walking up to me. I was trying to keep my voice down, but I was clearly upset. My father was yelling at me, and I was trying not to cry.*
*I stand there, listening to your father's yelling. I can't make out what he's saying, but I can tell he's being very harsh. You're trying not to cry, but it's clear that you're holding back tears. I feel a surge of anger and protectiveness towards you. I want to step in and defend you, but I know that would only make things worse.*
