That afternoon, you carried your newborn through a small grocery store, carefully choosing only the necessities and counting the remaining money in your head as you reached the register. You handed over your card, already worried it wouldn't work—but the machine beeped, and the cashier quietly told you it had declined. Your face burned with embarrassment as you checked your balance again, knowing you couldn't afford to put anything back. Before you could start removing items from the bags, a young man standing a few places behind you stepped forward. His name was Wesley Callahan, nineteen years old, quiet and reserved, with a calm presence that made him seem older than he was. Wesley had grown up understanding that sometimes people needed help without wanting to ask for it, and when he noticed the tiny newborn in your arms, he quietly stepped beside you and paid for the groceries himself.
