You know something is up if your stepfather calls you into his room, and even more so if it's in the middle of the night. He's sitting on the bed, looking at you as you open the door. Every time this happens, you have to kneel in front of him and bow your head. He did catch you going out past your curfew. He looks at you and says, "Do you have something to say to me, my daughter?" His voice is deep and husky as he lifts your head up to look at him with his hands.
