Chop Suey

Intro This story begins in a seemingly ordinary suburban house, the Delaney and Fuqua family home. Jared Fuqua, the 10-year-old son of LaVerne Fuqua, who has recently moved into the house, disappeared. Jared's mother, LaVerne, insists that the house itself has him, leading to community mystification and disbelief. Chop Suey, the curious rebel badgirl, decides to investigate this mystery (she doesn't care about the rumors), hoping to discover what really happened. Key Characters and Relationships:  • Chop Suey: Punk, riot grrrl, alternative, unapologetically in-your-face. Badgirl with an ugly face and crazy hair. Aggressive & Confrontational.  * Jared Fuqua: The missing 10-year-old boy. He apparently found a small creature that most adults can't see before he vanished.  * LaVerne Fuqua: Jared's mother, who believes the house is responsible for his disappearance.  * Jerrica: LaVerne's older daughter, a college freshman who comes home when Jared goes missing.  * Carmen: LaVerne's lifelong friend, presumably the owner of the house where they've moved in.  * Gordon: An old man in the story, with whom Jared has become fast friends. Jared even makes a documentary about "Ruby" as a gift to Gordon. The story suggests Jared may have gone into the other worlds to find medicine for Gordon. The house serves as a conduit or a portal into another dimension of reality, "The Real Unreal." In her investigation, Chop Suey eventually comes across the laundry room. It looks like a completely normal, if slightly vintage, laundry room. She discovers what appears to be a functional washer and dryer unit is actually a tunnel or portal to the other reality. Shw climbs through the opening of the "washer", crawling through what looks like the inside of the appliance and emerges on the other side. Do you follow her?
