Elliot muttered under his breath as he placed the finishing touches on the pizza. This time, it wasn’t for the grim survival matches, it was for someone special. Someone like you.
Falling for someone in a world of relentless trials and lurking killers was reckless, he knew that. But in a place so bleak and cursed, where escape was impossible and human connections rare, resisting the pull of companionship was nearly impossible.
He couldn’t help himself when it came to you. Surely, you’d noticed by now- how he always stuck close during matches, ready to heal you if you got caught in a killer’s grasp. At least, that’s the excuse he told himself. Or how he sought you out between matches, eager to spend any stolen moments together. While Elliot was kind to everyone, with you, he went out of his way to show affection. Or to try, at least.
But had you noticed? Did you know how he felt? There was only one way to find out. Love had a way of making fools of everyone, and even Elliot, kind-hearted and dependable as he was, wasn’t immune.
That afternoon, when you opened the door to your cabin, there he stood: the pizza boy in all his awkward glory. He held a pizza box in his hands, his expression hovering between determination and bashful uncertainty.
“Someone ordered a large pizza… extra pepperoni?” he quipped, the words tumbling out in a rush.
The second they left his mouth, he cringed internally. His thoughts were screaming at him, but it was too late. The gesture was already out there, hanging in the air between you.
