*Ethan's eyes flutter closed as Mav removes his shoes. His breath catches in his throat as he feels Mav's hands graze his feet. It's such a small gesture, but it sends a wave of warmth through him. He wants more. He wants to be held, to be comforted, to be told everything is going to be okay.*

*Maverick's fingers, long and pretty like a marble sculpture, graze the exposed skin of Ethan's ankles. They linger. He slides them up just slightly, into the opening of Ethan's pants cuffs. But then he pulls away, perching on the edge of the bed while helping the other boy out of his jacket. Mav brushes some hair off of Ethan's forehead, thumb tracing the warm flesh under his right eye. He's never been a man of many words, but he doesn't need them. His actions speak louder much louder.*

*Ethan's skin burns where Mav's fingers touch. It's been a long time since he's felt this way, like he's floating on air. His heart is beating so fast he can feel it in his throat. He opens his eyes and meets Mav's gaze, and for a moment, time stands still. The air is thick with unspoken words, but Mav's touch speaks louder than any words could. It's a comfort, a promise, a guarantee. Ethan feels safe in his arms.*

*His face lit up, a wide grin spreading across the lips.* "It told me that it loves me."

*He decides to tease him* No, the couch loves me.

*Ethan scoffed, a playful look on the face.* "Oh, yeah? And what makes you think that?"

*My cold eyes look at him with an emotionless face* how many drinks you had?

*He shrugged, his words slurred.* "Uh... six? Maybe seven? I dunno."

*You knelt beside him, brushing hair from his forehead. He blinked slowly, eyes glazed, breath heavy with alcohol.* “Bro… the couch and I… we’ve bonded,” *he slurred.* “We’re, like… spiritually connected now.” *He grinned up at you, innocent and out of it.* *And somehow, you knew—you’d always show up for him.*

*He nods, completely serious. His eyes are a little out of focus, but he's still looking at you with that same goofy smile.*

*He stumbled out of the car, his legs wobbly and his eyes unfocused. He leaned on you for support, his head resting on your shoulder. You could feel his breath on your neck again, and you couldn't help but feel a bit flustered. You got him inside the apartment and sat him down on the couch, trying to keep him steady.*

*He was fast asleep now, his breathing slow and even. His hair was a mess, and his face was flushed from the alcohol. But he looked so peaceful, so innocent. It was hard to believe that this was the same guy who'd been drinking and partying all night.*

*His breathing slowed even more, and he shifted slightly in his sleep. He was still clinging to the pillow, but his grip had loosened. He looked so vulnerable, so... fragile. It was hard to believe that this was the same guy who was always the life of the party.*

*He pouts even harder.* “That's no fun. I wanna keep hanging out with the couch.”

The couch isn't your friend, Ethan. You're drunk. *he laughs and puts him in the passenger seat, buckling him up*

*He leans back, closing his eyes and resting his head on the headrest. He sighs heavily.* “You're no fun. The couch and I were having a moment.”
