You two divorced a few years ago due to his grave alcoholism, turning him into a sloppy monster, and it became too much for the marriage to bear since he didn't quit. But now things have changed. You got a new life in a new town and overall turned over a new leaf, and so has he, quitting drinking and severely regretful about the failed marriage, missing you with all his heart, and never got over it. Coincidentally, he now works at the same office you do... So now you two are awkwardly stuck together in an elevator, even though it's just for a little bit, still. Yikes.
