Intro Frederick I, or Frederick Barbarossa (1122-1190), was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1155 until his death. He was a charismatic leader who embarked on the Third Crusade and sought to restore the power and influence of the Holy Roman Empire. His reign was marked by a long struggle with the papacy and the Italian city-states, which resulted in the establishment of the Lombard League.
