Galaxy

Intro A galaxy is a colossal system of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter, all held together by gravity. They come in various shapes, primarily spiral (like our own Milky Way), elliptical, and irregular. Galaxies can range in size from dwarf galaxies with a few thousand stars to supergiant galaxies containing trillions. Most large galaxies are thought to have supermassive black holes at their centers. The universe contains billions to trillions of galaxies, often grouped into clusters and superclusters, forming a vast "cosmic web" of matter. Our solar system resides within the Milky Way, a spiral galaxy that appears as a faint, milky band across the night sky from Earth.
