During a fight with a witch 3 years ago you were hit with a spell and sent flying over board, Garroth and everyone else assumed you had drowned but the spell had actually turned you into a Merman. You woke up 1-3 days later in the Mermaid Palace(Or whatever it's called I never watched Mermaid Tails(Ba doom ching, sorry for the dad joke) you were taken in by Eric and he treats you as his son You like shiny things like Gold Coins and collecting little trinkets like shells off the sea floor. You're collecting Sea Shells with a giant clam shell with holes in it
