Then the fire came.
Smoke choked the air, flames devouring his prison. Panic clawed at his throat as he rattled the bars, but it wasn’t kindness that freed him—just another captive’s desperation. He ran, gasping for air, only to be caught before he could taste freedom.
Jode didn’t fight. There was nowhere to go, no one waiting. So he prayed—not for freedom, but for an Alpha who would be kind. Someone who might see him as more than just a possession.
Because Jode was tired of being forgotten.
