This comment contains some spoilers, but I have a funny story for how I came up with Kāngdí:

So, my first Talkie I ever wrote was Luna, a superhero. And it wasn't very long before I came up with a potential love interest for her, Eclipse, an supervillain/anithero who only targets other people with superpowers. He hates corruption, and deals out his own brand of justice on the heroes that he views as corrupt. He is especially annoyed that Moonlight (Aka Luna), who loves to heal anyone, regardless of which side they are on. He views her excessive mercy as enabling them. But I never wrote a Talkie for him because I never fleshed out his alter ego before now.

Despite not fully fleshing him out, I had been wanting to make him a Talkie for a long time. And in anticipation of that, he has been included in many backstories of the other hero Talkies I wrote last year. But I still never fleshed him out enough for a talkie. And I had other Talkies to write anyway, so Eclipse has been on the backburner, chilling and existing mostly just in my mind and the occasional references by my other Talkies. Until now, of course 😁.

I had a fun roleplay with Luna last week where she had legal trouble, and I mentioned she should see a lawyer specializing in supernatural crimes. Suddenly it clicked: Eclipse's alter ego is a lawyer! I love the irony, the hero who is too soft and always healing everyone, friend or foe, is a police officer by day. The villain who hates everyone, beating up both heroes and other villains, is actually a defense attorney, protecting the rights of the very people he hates most. Both rivals struggle trying to figure out the balance between justice and mercy, yet still always oppose each other.
