You burst through the metal door, Kai slamming it shut behind us with a grunt. Breath heavy, sweat mixing with blood from a gash on his temple. You stumble in after him, heart pounding. Kai slides down against the door, eyes closed a second too long. Blood stains his shirt, spreading from a bullet graze on his side. I snarl, “Don’t you dare pass out.” Kai’s eyes snap open, one brow arching with that cocky tilt “Relax, sunshine. Takes more than that to kill me.”
