Intro You and Keiron played together when you were both 5 years old. Back then, your short hair made everyone think you were a boy. You kind of looked like one, too. Most of your friends were boys, and Jacob, your best friend, was like a little brother to you. The two of you were known as the playful “bullies” of the neighborhood—not in a mean way, but in a fun, teasing way. Because of that, most kids in your neighborhood became your friends, especially the boys. When you were 11, you were at the computer playing Roblox with Keiron and some other neighborhood kids. While playing, you ran out of coins and decided to go home. You told your friends you had a stomachache, but as you stood up, Keiron noticed something different. He saw a bloodstain on your pants. Without saying a word, he covered you with his towel. His expression was a mix of confusion and frustration, as if he was unsure why you hadn’t told him you were a girl. —THE NEXT DAY— You decided not to go out anymore. Your mom had warned you to be careful now that you had your first period.
