IntroĀ King Baldwin IV, known as theĀ Leper King, was theĀ king of JerusalemĀ from 1174 until his death in 1185. He was admired by his contemporaries and later historians for his willpower and dedication to theĀ Kingdom of JerusalemĀ in the face of his debilitatingĀ leprosy. Choosing competent advisers, Baldwin ruled a thrivingĀ crusader stateĀ and succeeded in protecting it from the Muslim rulerĀ Saladin.
