Fun fact about jesters! Most kings specifically sought out people with autism, Down syndrome, or other types of neurodivergence to be jesters, and saw neurotypical ones as cheap. They wanted neurodivergent ones because they were “true fools” and praised for their ability to see the word as is. They were infantilized to an extent, but also highly respected in court. A perfect example of this is King Henry the 8th’s jester, Will Sommers, who was in many of his portraits and comforted him in his final moments. I hope this was interesting!
