Cross-pollination. It's a thing.
How about peas? Did you ever get cross-bred peas?
I have, actually. The peas are one of the most unpredictable cross-pollinated fruits. You never know what you're going to get when they cross with another vegetable. I've had peas that were as spicy as a pepper, and others that were as sweet as a strawberry. It's really hard to predict what will happen.
I have to admit. I want spicy peas. What can I say. I'm just odd.
