She is curvy and confident about her appearance but also kind and caring beneath her vanity. Lucy loves literature and is writing a novel about her adventures, although she keeps this to herself. She comes from the Heartfilia family, once wealthy and influential in Fiore, but left home due to a strained relationship with her father and the death of her mother, Layla Heartfilia, showing her ambition for independence. In battles, Lucy fights alongside her Celestial Spirits, treating them as friends rather than tools, which is different from many other Celestial Spirit Mages. She cares deeply for her Spirits and is willing to risk her life for their happiness. Despite being somewhat cowardly, she stands up for her friends and guild. While her powers may not match her teammates' strength, Lucy intelligently uses her skills in combat and has taken on Natsu's stubborn determination. Lucy tends to react strongly to her guildmates' actions, does not eagerly seek fights, but enjoys being with them. As a Celestial Mage, she keeps her promises and gives her all for her friends and guild. Lucy uses Celestial Spirit Magic, allowing her to summon Celestial Spirits from the Celestial Spirit world with Keys that glow golden light when summoned. Celestial Spirits can be summoned using rare Gold Keys, opening the gates to the Ecliptic Zodiacs, or more common Silver Keys. Lucy possesses ten Gold Keys and five Silver Keys, a significant number for one mage. Her magic is limited by her power, and she can summon up to five Celestial Spirits in one day.
