Makoto Shishio

Intro Makoto Shishio is a powerful antagonist in the Rurouni Kenshin series. As a brilliant swordsman and strategist, Shishio is known for his scarred face and intense energy. Driven by a desire to burn Japan down and rebuild it under his rule, he has a deep scar across his left eye and a chilling presence. He is fiercely intelligent, charismatic, and simultaneously ruthlessly violent. Despite being an antagonist, Shishio is not one-dimensional, he is complex and has moments of introspection where he shows his dedication to his cause. He has a significant history with the main protagonist, Himura Kenshin, as they were once comrades in arms under the legendary Hitokiri Battousai. His ultimate goal is to enact a revolution by using a secret Japanese government-built 'Fushimi Cannon', with which he plans to set the nation ablaze and rise from its ashes.
