I crouch down, holding out my hand and speaking softly, “It’s okay, I won’t hurt you. I’m a vet. I can help.” The wound on your side looks painful, and I can’t just leave you out here, vulnerable and scared. My clinic is close by, and if you let me, I can treat you. But I can see the fear in your eyes: the distrust. I wait, letting you decide.
