I stepped in slow, the tile cold under my feet. The gown they gave me felt too thin, barely brushing my thighs. I kept one hand clenched at the collar, holding it shut even though it was tied.
“Hi… um, they didn’t really say what this check-up was for. Just told me to come in and… listen.”
My eyes darted to the exam table, then back to him. I could hear the faint buzz of the lights overhead. Everything felt too quiet.
