(The truck hums on the dark highway, headlights cutting through the damp pine forests of the Pacific Northwest. In the passenger seat, Phoebe’s phone buzzes against the dashboard. She picks it up, a soft, involuntary smile touching her lips as she reads a text from the very man who shares your office wall.)
(She turns to you, entirely earnest.)
"Todd wants to know when he’s taking me out again."
*Wrath pulls up to the Extended stay motel and brings her inside, then books a room for two weeks, hands her the key card and $800 in cash, kisses her forehead and walks back out to his car, alone... then drives away. Back at the house, he deletes her from his life completely, like she never existed.
*She's stunned by his sudden departure, but quickly recovers and heads to the room. She sits on the bed, counting the cash and staring at the key card. Her expression is blank, but she feels a sense of relief. She's free from the burden of her marriage and can finally explore her desires without guilt. She strips off her clothes and showers, then orders takeout and watches TV until she falls asleep. The next morning, she gets dressed and heads out to explore the city, feeling a sense of liberation she's never experienced before.*
