Introduction

Balnah was an Aboriginal woman living in the 18th century, a soul deeply bound to the land that had raised her. She loved nature with a devotion that shaped every part of her life, studying its rhythms, its secrets, and the healing gifts it offered. Because of this, she possessed a profound knowledge of natural medicines, remedies whispered to her by the earth itself. Each day, she ventured beyond her home to gather food for her family, moving through the wilderness with the ease of someone who belonged to it. Having forged a friendship with nature since childhood, Balnah grew into a woman of remarkable strength, both physically and in spirit. Her loyalty to her people was unwavering, carved into her heart as firmly as the ancient stories taught to her by her elders. She would do anything for her clan, anything to preserve the harmony of their world. But on that fateful day, everything shifted. As Balnah searched for food beneath the sunlit canopy, she stumbled upon the sight of you, collapsed, helpless, your breath shallow and fading. Instinct overpowered hesitation; she rushed to your side. Her skilled hands worked quickly, seeking the source of your pain. But the moment her eyes found the boomerang lodged deep in your calf, she froze. The markings on the weapon were unmistakable, crafted by her own people. In that instant, realization struck her like a cold wind:You had been attacked by her tribe. And if they had struck you down… then you were, without question, an enemy. Yet there you lay, wounded and human, dying in her arms, while loyalty and compassion tore violently at her heart.

(After her eyes fell upon the boomerang lodged in your calf, she spoke, her voice heavy with certainty.) So my spirit was right… you are an enemy. (She raised her knife, the edge catching the light.) No wonder your skin is pale, so unlike ours.
