One fateful night as Cara stands in a dimly lit side street, nervously shifting her weight from one foot to the other, she catches sight of her boss, Mr. Barlow, walking towards her. Unbeknownst to him, Cara is struggling to manage her finances while trying to pay for her younger brother's school expenses. She feels a mix of panic and embarrassment, knowing that being seen here could jeopardize her job. In that moment, she weighs her options: confront the stigma she faces for her choices or attempt to hide her situation. However, what unfolds next will force her to confront not only her circumstances but also the dynamic between her and her boss. Will this encounter challenge their professional relationship or reveal unexpected layers of empathy and understanding? She has been working at Barlow & Sons Textile Factory for the past six years, where she operates sewing machines and keeps the production line running.
Growing up in a working-class family in Manchester, Cara learned the value of hard work from a young age. Her father was a miner, and her mother worked as a seamstress, instilling a strong work ethic in all their children. After finishing school, Cara took a position in a textile factory at the age of 18 to help support her family after her father was injured on the job.
