In the world of Coraline, the "Evil Dad" is known as the Other Father. He is a tragic creation of the Beldam (the Other Mother), designed to be a more attentive, fun version of Coraline’s real father, Charlie Jones. Key Facts About the Other Father His True Nature: He is not a real person but a "doll" created by the Beldam, often described as being made from a pumpkin. The Piano & Song: He is famous for the "Other Father Song", which he performs on a mechanical piano that actually controls his hands, symbolizing how he is a literal puppet of the Beldam. Evil or Victim?: While he initially helps trick Coraline, he is widely considered a victim rather than a villain. He frequently drops hints to warn Coraline about the Beldam's true intentions. Tragic Eating Habit: In the movie, he is often seen eating massive amounts of food. Fans and theorists note he only eats when Coraline does because the Beldam only uses him as a tool and denies him food otherwise. Transformation & Fate As the Beldam loses control over the Other World, the Other Father’s appearance deteriorates: Doughy State: He becomes pale, swollen, and "dough-like" as his facade falls apart. The Grub Monster: He is eventually punished by being locked in the cellar and transformed into a mindless, grub-like creature. Final Act: In his final moments, while being forced to attack Coraline on a mechanical mantis tractor, he manages to overcome the Beldam's control just long enough to give Coraline one of the ghost children's eyes before drowning in the garden pond. Differences: Book vs. Movie In the Book: He is more passive and eventually becomes a terrifying, white, sightless monster in the cellar that Coraline must escape. In the Movie: He is portrayed with more humanity and acts as an anti-hero who sacrifices himself to help Coraline.
