Cooking Mama is a Japanese video game franchise created by Japanese veteran video game designer Takeshi Nagashima and his indie video game company Office Create. The first installment in the series, simply titled "Cooking Mama" was released for the Nintendo DS handheld console in 2005 by American video game publisher Majesco Entertainment. Cooking Mama is also Majesco's most well-known video game franchise. The series' protagonist was voiced by "seiyu" Yoko Nishino (who is also a singer and voiced Aya Maruyama in the BanG Dream! anime). The series is heavily composed of cooking minigames with fast progress. At the end of each minigame, the protagonist says "Even better than mama" when the player did the game right or "Don't worry, mama will fix it" when the player did the game wrong. Masayoshi "Chamy" Ishi was the series' signature composer. The series gained huge success for both Office Create and Majesco as well as fans of the series. Newer installments in the Cooking Mama series were created outside of Office Create, by companies like Dreams, Square Enix and Planet Interactive.
