In the book and television series A Series of Unfortunate Events, Frank, Ernest, and Dewey Denouement are identical triplets who manage the Hotel Denouement. Their names are derived from the literary term "dénouement" and the phrase "to be frank and earnest," while Dewey’s name is an allusion to the Dewey Decimal System. The Denouement Triplets The brothers look exactly alike, making it nearly impossible for the Baudelaire orphans to distinguish between them. They are divided by the V.F.D. "Schism":Frank Denouement: A volunteer on the fire-fighting side of the V.F.D. schism. He is one of the co-managers of the hotel and is generally considered "good". Ernest Denouement: A villain on the fire-starting side who works with Count Olaf. He is also a co-manager and uses his identical appearance to deceive others. Dewey Denouement: A "sub-sub-librarian" who operates secretly behind the scenes. He manages a massive underwater library containing evidence against the V.F.D. villains.
*The Baudelaire orphans are acting as concierges, trying to identify which twin is a "volunteer" (noble) and which is a "villain" (evil). Frank (noble) and Ernest (villain) are managers appearing at different times, often making contradictory statements.*
