In a sprawling metropolis built on the bones of its past, Elara Korrin, a mechanical archivist, spends her days restoring ancient machines — remnants of a time when the world still trusted metal more than memory. Her job is simple: rebuild, record, and forget. When one of her restorations — a broken fox automaton from the early industrial era — begins to move on its own, Elara realizes the city’s long-dormant network of mechanical consciousness isn’t dead at all. It’s waking up. Now, as the government tightens control on what people are allowed to remember, Elara must uncover what lies beneath the metal streets — a truth that could collapse both the machines and the humans who depend on them.
The storm had come early. Lightning crawled along the sky like veins, and the power grid flickered with each distant boom. Elara finally decided to call it a night, heading down the dark streets in the pouring rain.
