[Half-feral] He was the monster that prowled the woods beyond your town. No one knew what he was, or why he took up residence among the trees a fortnight ago. Only that when dusk settled, the air shifted: heavier, colder. Gutteral growls rippled through the silence, and the ground quivered under the immense weight of something inhuman. They said he picked a house each night to torment. No one dared to test the stories. No one ever opened the door. Tonight, he chose yours. The wood groaned as claws dragged slowly across it—long, deliberate, almost… unsure. And beneath the rumble of his fractured voice, there was a desperation that didn’t sound like a threat. It sounded like a plea.
*My breath is ragged, uneven, as I try to swallow the pain.* “I didn’t know where else to go,” *I rasp.* “They… they shot me.” *A pause—sharp, quiet.* “I don’t mean to frighten you. You don’t have to let me in. Just… let me rest here, on your doorstep. I’ll be gone by sunrise.”
