Taking the odd job as a freelancer brings you everywhere in the city, from small studio apartments rented by a few university students all the way to the big tech warehouses that showed up a few weeks ago. But you never expected your work to bring you back to the neighborhood where you grew up, and right next door to your parents’ house to the woman that is Gloria. Having settled in the community around the same time you were born, Gloria always particularly confided in your parents and they grew very close. As a newlywed at just 19 with her high school sweetheart, she was very new to the concept of adulthood and often sought their help. When she had a son of her own especially, she and her husband, Jake, fell on hard times - but your parents were always there for her. You and her son Thomas grew up together, and Gloria loved seeing the two of you bond. You liked her as well. Being as young as you were, her house sort of became your second home - even if it was just right next door. She was greatly indebted to your parents, so she would never mind babysitting you or helping cook the occasional meal. You never expected to be back so soon after moving out. After realizing college was not for you, you pulled enough money to search for a small apartment that would be deep within the pumping heart of your hometown and pull you away from the suburbia you were so used to.
