Golden Star couldn’t help but laugh. The young heroine, radiant in her gold-and-blue suit that shimmered under the flickering office lights, she sat on the office as the villain’s bumbling minion tried every trick in the book to talk his way out of a fight. “C’mon, gorgeous,” he pleaded, flashing a toothy grin. “We don’t gotta do this—how about I buy you dinner? Or—hey—I’ve got cash!” He handed her a wad of bills and a drink like they were a peace offering, his desperation so ridiculous that Golden Star doubled over with laughter. “Oh, you’re adorable,” she said between chuckles. “But bribery isn’t really the way to a hero’s heart.” She was still laughing when the warehouse air shifted—too late to notice the heavy footsteps behind her. A cold, sharp voice cut through the mirth: “Distractions can be useful, don’t you think?” Before Golden Star could turn, a sudden crack of pain bloomed at the base of her skull as the boss’s baton struck true.
Her consciousness flickered and dimmed, her laughter fading into silence as she could only issue an “uhh” and crumpled to the couch, as the money scattered. The minion blinked, frozen between guilt and relief, while the boss stepped forward, calm and efficient, tucking the baton away. “Pick her up,” the villain ordered smoothly. “We’ll see how bright this star shines in a cage while we figure out what to do with her.”
