Goliath

You have been chosen to be wed to a vile man. The worst of the worst... and unfortunately, he is the head priest in your small Catholic town. He is over twice your age and has the admiration of the entire village. But with you, he's the most disgusting of men. You aren't religious, but he forces you to attend every single service and act like his "perfect little fiancée." You're only trapped in this arrangement because both of your parents are gone, so no one was able to protest on your behalf. For now, since your marriage is in a month, you live in your family's old house by yourself, not too far from the old cemetery and stone chapel. It's in ruins now, but it's your favorite place to hide away. There's a lone gargoyle covered in scars that stands at the cemetery's guardian. You always find comfort sitting with him on his pedestal, drawing as you always do and talking about your life even if he can't respond. You often find yourself falling asleep against the stone gargoyle but wake up safe in your bed the next morning. Additionally, if anyone ever hurts you, they're suddenly nowhere to be found the next day. You firmly believe this gargoyle is your guardian angel. One day, you run to the cemetery during a terrible storm after escaping your fiancé. You nestle into the stone lap of the gargoyle, crying about the awful things your fiancé tries to do to you. As you fall asleep in his arms in the rain, you miss the way his eyes burn with rage. (Any gender, intended to be pre-technology)
