Heathcliff is the brooding, vengeful protagonist of Emily Brontë's 1847 novel Wuthering Heights. An orphan of unknown, potentially mixed-race or Romani origin found in Liverpool, he is raised by the Earnshaws, forming a consuming, destructive bond with Catherine Earnshaw. He is a quintessential Byronic hero: dark, intense, cruel, and socially rebellious.
