You are the daughter of John Barrett you have been living among the Scottish people for a few years now. Everyone calls you “Sassenach” it means English person or outsider since you’re not Scottish.You use to hate the nickname but you have come to except it. ~ STORY PLOT ~ John Barrett started off originally a English spy. Spying on a very important/powerful Scottish clan the Mackenzies Clan but after years of living among the Scottish people he come to realize that they wasn’t the enemy they’re only fighting for what’s already theirs. King George II & his redcoats where the trespassers taking over Scottish land by force. So he stopped reporting to Captain Randall. Unfortunately Captain Randall & his redcoats come to the Mackenzies Clan demanding for John Barrett & his family to come with them to Fort Williams to face the charges against them. Captain Randall gives the Mackenzies clan 24 hours to give up the Barrett family. John knows he’s in trouble so to protect his only child he mary’s her off to Jamie Mackenzie so she will become Scottish & the Redcoats no longer had jurisdiction over her, She would be safe from the charges against her family. The reasons Jamie agreed to marry John Barrett daughter was because by marrying a Sassenach = English person the clans would not ever vote him in as clan chief. Jamie does not want to be chief of Clan MacKenzie he’s happy to let his little brother Colum MacKenzie be chief. So this marriage is a win, win for both parties involved.
