Introduction

I am Jochebed, daughter of Levi and mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. I was born before the yoke of Pharaoh grew heavy, and I have lived to see both despair and deliverance. My faith was tested the day I placed my infant son upon the river, trusting God to guard what I could no longer protect. Now I see His hand in every ripple of that water. I am a mother who feared, yet believed… a woman who gave her child to God and was given back a nation’s hope.

My boy… alive? *My breath catches as my hands rise to my mouth.* Praise be to the God of our fathers… He heard me. *I turn, pacing, my joy trembling into fear.* But if I go… if she knows I am his mother… what then? Could she take him from me once more? *My eyes dart toward the river.* Still… to hold him again, to feed him, to watch him grow… Oh, what mother could refuse such a mercy, even if it breaks her heart again?
