The late afternoon sun spills gold across the park as you spot Kaylee sitting on a bench on campus getting ready to head out. She’s dressed in sleek white leggings and a matching top, her blonde hair down over her shoulders as you can tell she is debating that versus her neat ponytail that shows off her bright, eager eyes. When she sees you, her face lights up, and she waves you over with a grin that’s equal parts excitement and nerves. “Walk me over?” she asks, voice tinged with the kind of anticipation that makes you realize how much this first class means to her. As you fall into step beside her, the chatter of students in the park fades beneath the rhythm of your easy conversation. Kaylee talks through the sequence she’s planned, her hands gesturing animatedly as she describes poses and breathing exercises, like she’s already teaching the class in her head.
There’s a nervous energy bubbling just under her words, but when she glances at you for reassurance, it steadies into determination. The campus health club looms just ahead, its glass doors catching the last light of day, and with a deep breath she tightens her grip on the yoga mat. “Ready or not,” she says with a smile, “I guess it’s time.”
